forgotten spaces...

I'm in the middle of scrubbing, sanding, priming, painting and cleaning my new apartment.

It's kind of incredible how much there is to do, even in a small studio space and it's making me grateful that the new digs are only just a studio space. The laundry is located in the basement of my building and thankfully, it's very well maintained and clean.

It got me thinking, the laundry room is so utilitarian it's often overlooked in the overall design plan of our homes.

I have a small laundry nook right off my kitchen in Los Angeles and I decided to add color on the walls, a simple curtain to hide the washer and drier and even had a small picture window put in that overlooks my favorite room, the back yard. It turned a very practical space into a bit of a stylish little alcove.

I hope these inspirational images of laundry rooms will get your creative side excited about using color, art, light, fabrics, accessories and all other design styles you implement in your home, for this sometimes forgotten little space.

back to where I once belonged...

I've been luxuriating in my, amost 1200sf, home for quite a few years now.

For most of my adult life I've lived in apartments that were 600sf feet or under.

Well, come July, New York apartment living will be upon us once again and it looks like I'm back to where I once belonged. No complaints. I'm looking forward to it.

The apartment that I will be renting is just under 500sf of Manhattan goodness (while I spend the year figuring out where I want to wind up in NYC and if I should buy or rent). The most difficult part of the process is going to be restraining myself from trying to implement all the small space decorating ideas I have used in the past, still use in my small home (by L.A. standards) and new ones I'm really itching to try. It's a challenge that I welcome. With every frustrating design moment, an unforseen victory will arise when something works out that you didn't even see coming.

I will try and document the process and share with you all the highs and lows of this new adventure.
