the daily tip...

I think I meant "Saturday" NOT Friday in the video.
I'm a little confused.

Apparently, one giant mug of coffee isn't enough to clear the head fog.

Have a great weekend!

read on, eat on...

photos: sarah shatz

If you're not reading food52 and you love food along with all that goes with it, please do yourself a favor and check it out. I feel like I shouldn't be the only one agonizing over all the tasty options--like I need any help in that department.

Enjoy and have a great weekend.

I'm off to Las Vegas for the Furniture Market/Convention.
Will report back with info from the front lines when I'm back early next week!

kooky...

...crazy and I love it!
not your average tea towels, or pillow cases.

THIRD DRAWER DOWN makes some kooky stuff. Their Tea Towels are like individual works of art. I don't know if I could actually use them. I'd want to frame them, but I guess using them would be a good thing. Great way to bring a little art into a mundane task.
At the end of the day, art should do that for you.

Enjoy.

more than just a view...

The images above are from the roof garden of the Washington Mutual Bank Building in Seattle, Wa. The design firm, PFS, describes this project (below).

The 17th-floor Washington Mutual Bank roof garden is a green roof that functions as the vital social space and civic heart of the Bank's downtown campus. Rather than meet the City of Seattle's minimum open space requirements, the garden's usable area was enlarged threefold to provide decks and pathways that showcase views across Elliott Bay while integrating elements that tell a story about the Bank, its local origins, and the community it serves. The varied and unique landscapes of the State of Washington, from the coastal beaches to the Olympic and Cascade ranges to the interior plateau, are referenced in the design. A glass-beaded abacus screen wall and 'The Change Garden,' a repository for spare change that will be donated to Seattle's charitable organizations, demonstrate the Bank's ongoing role as a corporate citizen.

pinch...

Great design out of London.

Simple.

Elegant.

Timeless.

-angelo

Founded in 2004, Pinch is the collaboration between husband and wife team Russell Pinch and Oona Bannon.

Working from our studio /showroom in London we aim to create graceful and iconic furniture and lighting that work for both elegant domestic spaces and stylish contract environments. With a timeless quality, our pieces are designed and built to last, and we hope work comfortably in a variety of situations, from concrete to country. Our style does not seek to dominate or dictate but we hope instead thoroughly and resonantly engages.

Our approach to design combines a keen appreciation of artistic lines and form, absolute attention to detail and sensitivity to materials. These combined qualities lend our creations integrity and artistic elegance in equal measure.

Our pieces are made by hand and to order, and we have worked hard to locate and employ the best quality makers here in the UK. We believe in using local, making to need, and offering bespoke flexibility wherever possible to ensure our clients commission pieces that really deliver both on function and aesthetic.

Russell Pinch also designs for a number of other retailers and brands including SCP, Ercol, Conran and Jamie Oliver’s JME home-ware range.

background

Born in 1973, Russell Pinch graduated from Ravensbourne College of Design, London. After graduating he worked as Sir Terence Conran’s design assistant and in 1995 he became a Senior Product Designer for the Conran Group. Here he was responsible for developing a diverse range of products for the Conran shops and restaurants and many of the designs for the Conran Collection, Conran’s benchmark home-ware collection.

After 5 years with Conran, Russell co-founded The Nest, a multi-disciplinary brand design agency with clients including British Airways, WHSmith, Rip Curl and Selfridges.

In 2004 a return to furniture design beckoned and PINCH, a furniture, product and interior design company, was born.

Also born in 1973, Oona started her career as a researcher/producer in TV, working for a number of production companies including Zenith Productions, Meridian and Optimum Television. She then went on to spend 6 years in the design industry. Starting as an Account Manager at The Nest she was then Account Director at branding agency Bloom for 4 years. Her final and certainly most luxurious posting pre-PINCH was her role as European Hotel reviewer for the luxury hotel guide book brand Mrs and Mrs Smith.

love. love. love...

So deserving and so devastatingly smart and funny.

inspirational rooms o' the day...

Who doesn't love a little inspiration now and then? It's everywhere.

Todd Alexander Romano is a decorator who's work is definitely worth looking at. All the elements of great decorating are used in classic ways, but if you look closely...there's freshness and some fun going on as well. I'm a big fan of the fun. Rooms that take themselves too seriously are like people that do the same. You never want to hang with them.

behind the scenes...

Just a few behind the scenes from the angelo:HOME photo shoot
this past weekend, with some of the new upholstery furniture pieces rolling out for 2010.

We had some good times putting it all together.

Of course, a GINORMOUS "Thank You" to everyone on that day that made it so much fun;
Tom, Tracey, Inta, Gedra, Christos, Ruth & Ed! You kids make me look good.

sleepy...

photo: iPhone/angelo:HOME

Baxter spent the weekend in bed. He's a smart kid.

The weekend was a long one but SO much fun. I Spent Fri, Sat, Sun doing a photo and video shoot for all the new upholstered furniture pieces from the angelo:HOME collection. Can't wait to show you all the fruits of our laboring. It's all being processed and fine tuned as I write this. Will share soon along with some "fresh off the cookie sheet" exciting retailer news.

The team that helped put it all together this weekend (Inta, Gerda, Tom, Ruth, Tracey, Christos, Ed, Beth & Tyler) brought the fun, hard work, and their appetites because you know I brought plenty of food to the shoot! That's how I roll.

Good times people---these are good times! Hope your weekend was filled with them.

2nd chances...

There's nothing to say that hasn't already been said about this horrible catastrophe.

What's left is what individual people can do.
My belief in second chances runs incredibly deep.
Here are a few organizations that can help those in need of one (click on links below):

take it outside...

I'm a sucker for a great garden, outdoor living store. I'm not sure why there aren't more of them in Southern California. For the love of coffee it was 80 degrees yesterday--January 11th! We live outside so much here that you'd think more places like BOTANIK would pop up.

Well, this is a glass have full situation. At least BOTANIK exists and if you're in their hood (Summerland, Ca.), driving up to Santa Barbara from L.A. or the other way around, make a pit stop and dream about living outdoors.

tile it up...

I love tile.

All sorts of tile--even the kind that I would probably not use in my own home.

The thing about tile is that it feels like it's speaking about the room it's being used in. It's telling you how it feels about the room. I love that. Also, it's a fantastic way to really create something unique, artful and individually yours in a back splash, a floor, a fireplace surround--you get the idea.

You can make great budget conscious decisions when redoing a room and by adding a great tile pattern, color or texture, the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

There are so many great places all over the country that specialize in all sorts of tile. Look for retailers in your own part of the world that can inspire and excite you.

There's a new place in Los Angeles, HEATH CERAMICS, that I have fallen in love with. I'm not even going to bore you with my huge love of ceramics. It's bordering on obsessiveness and I work hard at keeping the need to collect them all at bay. Good times. They also specialize in tiles. Good stuff.
